Sand Tarts

Sand tarts are a delightful treat. These buttery, melt-in-your-mouth cookies are perfect for any occasion and easy to prepare, thanks to their simple ingredients.

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup of unsalted butter, softened

  • 1 cup of granulated sugar

  • 1 large egg

  • 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract

  • 2 1/2 cups of all-purpose flour

  • 1/2 teaspoon of salt

  • 1/4 teaspoon of cinnamon (optional)

  • Additional sugar for sprinkling

  • Sliced almonds or pecans for topping

Instructions:

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and prepare baking sheets by lining them with parchment paper.

  2. In a large mixing bowl, cream together the softened butter and sugar until light and fluffy. This usually takes about 3 to 5 minutes.

  3. Beat in the egg and vanilla extract until well combined.

  4. In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, salt, and cinnamon (if using). Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture, mixing until a dough forms.

  5. Divide the dough in half. Roll out each portion to about 1/8-inch thickness on a lightly floured surface.

  6. Use cookie cutters to cut the dough into desired shapes. Place the cutouts on the prepared baking sheets. Sprinkle with additional sugar and top with a slice of almond or pecan for decoration.

  7. Bake in the preheated oven for 8-10 minutes, or until the edges are lightly golden. Keep a close eye as they can brown quickly.

  8. Allow the cookies to cool on the baking sheet for a few minutes before transferring them to a wire rack to cool completely.
