- ¾ cup (150g) light brown sugar
- 1 tbsp ground cinnamon
- 1 tsp unsweetened cocoa powder
For the Cream Cheese Glaze:
- 4 oz (115g) cream cheese, softened
- ¼ cup (60g) unsalted butter, softened
- 1 cup (120g) powdered sugar
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- 1-2 tbsp milk (as needed for consistency)
Instructions
Make the Dough:
- Combine flour, sugar, salt, and yeast in a large mixing bowl or stand mixer.
- Whisk together the warm milk, warm water, egg, softened butter, cocoa powder, and red food colouring in a separate bowl.
- Gradually add the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients, mixing until a dough forms.
- Knead the dough on a floured surface (or with a dough hook in a stand mixer) for about 8-10 minutes, until smooth and elastic.
- Place the dough in a lightly greased bowl, cover it with a clean towel, and let it rise in a warm place for 1-2 hours, or until doubled in size.
Prepare the Filling:
- Mix the brown sugar, cinnamon, and cocoa powder in a small bowl.
- Once the dough has risen, roll it out on a floured surface into a 12×16-inch rectangle.
- Spread the softened butter evenly over the dough, then sprinkle the cinnamon-sugar mixture on top.
