Ingredients

  • 3 cups (360g) all-purpose flour (plus extra for kneading)
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1 cup (240ml) buttermilk (room temperature)
  • 1/4 cup (60ml) honey
  • 2 tablespoons (30g) unsalted butter, melted (plus extra for brushing)
  • 1 large egg (room temperature)

Instructions

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9×5-inch loaf pan and set aside.
  • In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, salt, baking soda, and baking powder.
  • In a separate bowl, whisk together the buttermilk, honey, melted butter, and egg until well combined.
  • Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients. Stir gently until just combined. Do not overmix; the dough should be slightly sticky.
  • Turn the dough out onto a lightly floured surface. Knead gently for about 1-2 minutes, just until the dough comes together and is smooth. Shape it into a loaf.
  • Place the dough into the prepared loaf pan. Brush the top with a little melted butter for a golden crust.
  • Bake in the preheated oven for 40-45 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and a toothpick inserted into the centre comes out clean.
  • Remove the bread from the oven and let it cool in the pan for 10 minutes. Then transfer it to a wire rack to cool completely before slicing.
